Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama
I can't help thinking that race trumped ideology here. A career military man who is a self-described Republican passes over McCain, a fellow Vietnam veteran, for Obama, the junior Senator from Illinois:
"I think he is a transformational figure," Powell said. "I think he is a transformational figure. He is a new generation coming onto the world stage and on the American stage. And for that reason, I'll be voting for Senator Barack Obama."He's "transformational". That's got to be about the stupidest reason I've ever heard anyone say anywhere.
He also claimed he had been going "back and forth" on who to support. Well, if your support for either is that lukewarm, why go on television, against your own party, and against a fellow vet? Why publicly endorse either one?
Even retired generals are entitled to make stupid decisions. But unless he's angling for a job in an Obama administration, I have a feeling his career in the Republican party has ground to a halt...
On another note, I finally have internet access here. Updates coming today.
One update: Even more cynically - notice how he didn't make any endorsement until after one side had a substantial lead?
Another side note: Michael Powell, Colin's son and former FCC chairman, endorsed John McCain.

I watched the video on someone else site the blog title was, "Wise words from a wise man" I really expected to hear wise words. I was so disapointed. I was left wondering why it took, Colin Powell 7 minuites to get it all out when it was evedent in the first 30 seconds who he was going to endorse.
I really think my frustration is in the fact that everyone seem to forget, times and seasons change. To often people will base their decision to vote based on what I call the barometer of the country, a hot or cold topic at the moment. Topics such as economics, healthcare, housing change like the seasons. We Americans should do our homework on these issues. But, when the foundation is missing there’s not much homework needs to be done.
Our country was not founded on the stock market, health care, etc. It was found on biblical beliefs and those moral values.
Colin Powell, stated McCain is to far to the right. What a stupid thing to say. Now, I know why he's is no loger on the Bush team.
