Microsoft Internet Explorer vs. Mozilla Firefox
It's the fight of the decade - which browser is better?
For some reason, readers of my site disproportionately use Firefox compared to the general population. According to researchers, about 17% of web surfers worldwide use Firefox and about 75% use IE. But among my web site visitors, the Firefox share is 40%, or more than twice that average. With the remainder, 50% use IE, and 10% use various other browsers.
Because of this, I've really made an effort to use Firefox, and make sure it works well with my site. Now I alternate between the two, and I like having the choice. But if I have to choose, I generally prefer Internet Explorer because fonts on almost every page look better. Text in Firefox tends to look somewhat jagged, especially if you are using higher screen resolutions. If you don't believe me, open up my site or any page in Wikipedia and compare the two while running a resolution higher than 1024x768. But Firefox has a reputation for being much more secure, so I'm going to keep playing with it. I also partially solved the text problem; today I switched this site's font from "Trebuchet" to "Verdana", which looks only slightly different in IE but greatly improved in Firefox.
If you want to try Mozilla Firefox, it's totally free, and you can download it in the language of your choice here. That's another perk; I was able to download the German version, an option I don't have with IE.
