Democracy is "Racist"
An official report from Switzerland's "Federal Commission on Racial Discrimination" claims that Democracy is "racist".
Well, not quite, but close enough... They claim that the process for citizenship in Switzerland is racist; problem is, it's decided by vote, in one of the purest examples of Democracy anywhere:
Switzerland has Europe's toughest naturalisation laws. Foreigners must live for 12 years in a Swiss community before they can apply, and being born in Switzerland brings no right to citizenship. That last line seems a little strange; whether citizen or not, any legal resident who is handicapped is still a burden on the state, and still receives the same level of medical care as a citizen does.
Under the current system, foreigners apply through their local town or village.
They appear before a citizenship committee and answer questions about their desire to be Swiss. After that, they must often be approved by the entire voting community, in a secret ballot, or a show of hands. This practice, the report says, is particularly likely to be distorted by racial discrimination.
It cites the case of a disabled man originally from Kosovo. Although fulfilling all the legal criteria, his application for citizenship was rejected by his community on the grounds that his disability made him a burden on taxpayers, and that he was Muslim.
The report recommends that decisions on citizenship should be decided by an elected executive and not by the community as a whole.
This movement to change the system is nothing new. It's been going on for years. The multicultural elites cannot stand the fact that a decision like this is left to the Swiss to decide who will be Swiss. If this was any EU nation, Switzerland would have been forced to change a long time ago. Fortunately for them, they never joined the EU club.
In any case, this is frankly the finest example of true democracy in the world. If it's racist, it's because the Swiss people are racist; if it's generous and compassionate, it's because the Swiss people are generous and compassionate. I wish we used this same system in the US, as well as other European countries. As it is, the West has rapidly been transformed without a real debate, referendum, or any popular choice in the matter whatsoever. What could be a more important decision than choosing the very people who will be the future of a nation?
An article from the Free Republic a few years ago put this quite eloquently:
Last but by no means least the Swiss result is encouraging because at least one civilized country in the world will continue to uphold the right of local communities to decide who will qualify for naturalization. Unique in today’s Western world, this healthy sense of Swiss citizenship reminds us of the Greek polis. It reflects an underlying assumption of kinship among citizens that cannot be fulfilled by mere residence and observance of the rules. Naturalization in Athens was possible but difficult; it was a rare privilege and anything but a right. Likewise in today’s Switzerland if you want to belong, but do not belong by blood, you have to prove a high degree of cultural and civilizational kinship with the host-society. Like in Athens, in today’s Switzerland citizenship includes the right and duty to fulfill certain functions, among which military service is very important. It is remarkable that to this day every Swiss male over 18 must be prepared to serve in the country’s citizen-army; after completing their basic training they keep their weapons at home, and refusal to perform military service is a criminal offence. The thought must have crossed the mind of a few Swiss reservists that all too many aspiring foreigners could never be trusted with those weapons. The Swiss understand, even when they do not know, that the collective striving embodied in "We the People" makes no sense unless there is a definable "people" to support it. They sense that many immigrants have no kinship with the striving and no connection to the "people," except for the unsurprising desire to partake in its wealth.
This sense is light years away from the "multicultural" understanding of citizenship promoted in the European Union and in North America
Opening up Swiss citizenship to anyone at all (as the US does) means that the small country would one day cease to exist (see Belgium, for an example). As it is, 20 percent of the Swiss population is foreign-born. It also fuels resentment, and unfortunate backlashes, as a recent political advertisement shows.

UPDATE: I see that Gates of Vienna beat me to this article, with some more commentary.

The Swiss system is solid and more countries should use it.
Citizenship should be something earned, not demanded.
Immagine if I demanded you give me a room in your house. That's clearly unreasonable. Unrestricted citizenship is just as clearly unreasonable.
Well, Switzerland and the Swiss are a peculiar people. I guess you get that way when you live in a country that is basically consisting of mountains and banks that got rich during WW2 by doing business with everybody. They only have banks - and watches and very good chocolate.
A direct democracy can't really work as soon as the population gets too large. Ancient Greece was that way too, but the same was true for the original democracy that is true for the swiss one. People are easily influenced. That example for the Kosovian - well the people were probably sitting in the pub in the evening shooting their mouths off like it happens all over the world.. and then the same people get to decide who becomes a citizen? They base their opinion on their mood and peer pressure. I am glad that the rest of the western world doesn't operate in that fashion.
And I would say that it is fortunate for the rest of the EU not to have Switzerland in it, not the other way around. A nation that made alot of its profit by accepting the money of jewish refugees during the 3rd reich and 2nd WW - without allowing any jewish refugees in, just their money and riches which they simply kept afterwards - well such a country does not have my sympathy. It may sound like a conspiracy theory, but its just a story about greed which is not unbelievable at all. Let them pride themselves being a neutral nation - it's all just smokes and mirrors. As long as there are enough people who are willing to accept money and run accounts without asking any question - politley called discretion - and basing their decision on whom to allow in just on monetary value for the community - well don't we just wish we could all be like that and get away with the rest of the world thinking what a prime and fine example of true democracy we are!
Well, I think direct democracy is something good when we have honest politicians who show the facts, and work for people interest, not for their self-interest!! The Swiss People Party is the worst example of politicans, who just wanna win the elections and attract the maxmum of voices, according to Pascal Sciarini, professor of political science at the University of Geneva, the People's Party's recent electoral success is down to its tough line on foreigners, and it is now a prisoner of this strategy: "They have to keep the fires burning, and that means they have to come up with new ideas and at the same time harden their stance," he said.
Switzerland must be tolerent like any democratic nation which respects human rights, it must integrate many people from different origines, not only for white people, if it does not it will collapse, because those foreigners will be enemies instead of being good citizens.
The nationality is a right, imagine yourself lived longtime in Switzerland, married Swiss, your childs are Swiss, don't you deserve the nationality ? it is not up to Swiss people to give or not, it is your right, you became a member in this society, no matters what the racists say !!!
Swiss suck they're raicst longtime ago, remember the World War II and did they with the poor Jews, they did not accept them as refugees and let them to be gazed in the Nazi camps, even before 20 years the Italian and Spanish immigrants suffered from the Swiss racism, go read the history, how did they helped Hitler.
According to 2006 statistics 86 percent of foreig residents in Switzerland are European !!! so they don't like the 14 percent from the outside ?!!! they suck racist ignorant, easilly manipulated by thier selfish politicians.
Switzerland does not deserve to be called '' a democratic free country '' and does not deserve to have all these international organisations headquarters, it just deserve to be call '' rich racist fascist country '' and not different from the retarded islamic countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan ...etc

I agree with the last comment , Swiss people have the right to be racist if they choose to , but at the sametime , they don't deserve anymore to be called a democratic tolerent nation, and should be classified with the retarded rich countries like Saudi Arabia. Moreover, they don't deserve to keep all those international organisations like the United Nations in their country because it will be contradictory and paradoxical.
I suggest to relocate all the international organisations in Switzerland, they must be in a tolerent democratic country, like my country Canada, we will never be racist because we are all immigrants from different ethnicities :-)
