Still on Vacation - Port De Monaco
Here is a view of the Port De Monaco, Monte Carlo, yesterday evening. To the upper right on the top of the hill, is the Palace of Prince Rainer III.
It would be difficult to find a city in Europe more obsessed with wealth and excess, and that's saying a lot.
Monaco is more or less a sovereign nation. They have their own flag, police force, laws, and license plates. They are also not part of the European Union. But I say more or less, since they use the Euro as currency (the EU's currency), have no border checkpoints, and rely on foreigners for virtually all their labor.
This is one of two ports in Monaco. The other is the Port De Fontvieille, to the west. Between the two ports is the Musée Océanographique, founded by the former Prince Albert and Oceanographer Jaques Cousteau. It has a good but fairly standard aquarium section and an outstanding oceanographic museum, with a life size model of the world's first submarine and diving gear on display, among many other things.
