"Fred, Fred, Fred", what about "Hussein, Hussein, Hussein"?

Via Classical Values, I found that the Washington Post has printed what has got to be the most inane fluff piece on a US Presidential race that I have ever seen (and since this campaign has barely started, that's not a good sign).

A writer named "Monica Hesse" goes on for three pages on how the name "Fred" (referring to Fred Thompson, who isn't even officially running yet) doesn't fit well with a US President. I am not joking.

I wonder how the Washington Post would react to a similar column musing on the name "Hussein" (Barack Obama's middle name)?

There's an incredible amount of comments on this article at their web site (over 450 at the time I write this!) And reading through them, evey single one I can find is decidedly negative. Somehow, I don't think Ms. Hesse has a bright future at the paper.

Why would they run a piece like this? Here is one speculation from "straightarrow", a commenter on the Alpheca blog:

Obviously the WAPO hires the handicapped and they are to be respected for it. However, I don’t think they should necessarily let the mentally handicapped write articles. But hey, it’s their paper.

I liked James Taranto's rhetorical question to the author of this piece...Noting that she refers to the definitions of "Fred" given at urbandictionary.com, he asks:

"Say,Monica, did you happen to look up your own name on UrbanDictionary.com?"

This is the same woman who published "Rove's 'Mob' Remark: An Age-Old Social Slur" a few days ago --another misguided hit piece that leaves you scratching your head at her utter stupidity.
Her photo is found here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A15411-2004Aug19.html)
"Guerrilla Party Tactics", a touching story about Guerilla Queer Bar Takeover events.
Some unresolved issues with "M-E-N" perhaps?
